I was working with shadowboxes the other day and I noticed that my edges when I taped the cards together was fairly sloppy and inaccurate. I did some browsing and thinking and found a STL file to 3d print a shadowbox. The version I found held six cards and came with a base that can be glued together to hold the cut cards that make the 3d effect.
I also found another STL file for making a card holding jig to make sure that every card I layer and glue together is uniform and will clean up the appearance and make it look more professional. The only thing I need to remember when working with the jig or the 3d printed shadowbox is to use black paint to coat the edges where I cut the cards to help them blend together better visually.
I think once I get better at the shadowbox technique, I will look at incorporating some mini LED lights to accent some of the cut out pieces of the cards. I saw a person on YouTube that did that and the results looked pretty good I thought. So it might be worth trying with Union Arena cards or Magic the Gathering cards when cutting them and placing them in a 3d printed shadowbox.
