I did some work on anatomy studies in manga style. I used Hikaru Hayashi's book titled Drawing the Female Figure. Hayashi's approach is to detail the skeleton and build simple shapes from that and then flesh out the rest of the character. It is a very in depth book so far and it is helping me understand proportions and line of action. I ended up doing nine reference drawings, each of them took approximately 5-6 minutes each to sketch out. I did not have access to my iPad for this study session so I used a sketch book with my mechanical pencil with blue lead.

If I had my iPad, I would have done the: Trace, Reference, Blind, Red Line method in order to get better feedback. I plan on doing that tomorrow while I am at work on break. If I study from Hayashi's book a little bit everyday using that method I should be fairly proficient in the next sixty days or so. I will continue to post my sketches here to see how I improve over the next year.
